|
Jim Sheridan updates the story of a poor Irish family searching for a better life In America. An aspiring actor (Paddy Considine) and his wife (Samantha Morton), traumatized by the death of their only son and chronic unemployment, move to a junkie-infested apartment in Hell's Kitchen with their two daughters. A friendship with an artist who lives below them (Djimon Hounsou) helps them to rebuild their family. Morton and Hounsou's performances earned Academy Award nominations in 2002, as did Sheridan's deeply personal screenplay.
