This four-film collection of acclaimed WWII movies leads off with the classic submarine film, Run Silent, Run Deep (1958), in which Burt Lancaster and Clark Gable battle each other as well as the Imperial Japanese Navy. Oscar-nominated (Best Editing), The Great Escape (1963) made a star out of Steve McQueen. Nominated for a BAFTA (Best Sound), Battle of Britain (1969) featured some of the leading English actors of the time: Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson, Michael Caine, Trevor Howard, and a young Ian McShane in his film debut. Director Richard Attenborough also assembled an all-star cast for A Bridge Too Far (1977), which won four BAFTA awards, including Best Supporting Actor for Edward Fox.
