Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, and Maggie Smith star as the Earl, Countess, and Dowager Countess, respectively, who inhabit the plush drawing rooms, library, and grand bedrooms overlooking the park. Below the stairs live the servants, some as committed to Downton as the aristocrats above; others are merely passing through, looking for opportunities, love, or adventure.
