|
|
The Pacific Theater is the focus of these three classic WWII films and one from the Vietnam era. In the only military action film he made during the war, Cary Grant skippers a sub into the enemy's backyard in Destination Tokyo (1943), which earned an Oscar nomination for Steve Fisher's original script. The action shifts to the Philippines as Robert Taylor in Bataan (1943), then John Wayne in Back to Bataan (1945), fight the Japanese alongside Filipino resistance forces. Wayne finds himself fighting against the guerrillas in The Green Berets (1968), a cinematic tribute to America's Special Forces, based on the novel by Robin Moore.
