Though his talents were never acknowledged with an Oscar nomination, Errol Flynn was the ultimate embodiment of Hollywood's swashbuckling hero. This collection leads off with his breakthrough role, in 1935, as a physician-turned-pirate in Captain Blood, recipient of five Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. He delivered, perhaps, his definitive performance, in 1938, in the title role of The Adventures of Robin Hood, a Best Picture nominee and winner of three Oscars. The Sea Hawk (1940), nominated for four Oscars, was Flynn's last great swashbuckling performance; more subtle was Adventures of Don Juan (1948), his last major studio film, recognized with an Oscar—for his wardrobe.
