|
|
Not to be confused with the same-named film Joan Crawford made with Clark Gable in 1931, this Possessed, made in 1947, earned the film noir queen her second Academy Award nomination in a role she described as the most challenging of her career. She plays personal nurse Louise Howell who, after suffering through a one-sided love affair with David Sutton (Van Heflin), meets and marries a devoted and wealthy businessman (Raymond Massey). But she just can't get over her fixation with David and eventually descends into a state of paranoid schizophrenia, resulting in tragic consequences for all concerned.
