|
Nominated for three Oscars, this 1998 film stars Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon as two present-day teenagers who are transported into the world of a 1950s family sitcom called Pleasantville. But as they interact with the town's staid inhabitants and introduce such freethinking ideas as individualism and self-expression, color begins to invade this black and white world, and the citizens of Pleasantville find they can no longer go on in the proscribed paths their lives had once taken. Jeff Daniels, Joan Allen, and William H. Macy also star, and Don Knotts hilariously plays the enigmatic "T.V. Repairman" who makes the journey possible.
