|
Filmmaker Barry Levinson draws on his hometown for these humorous and heartwarming tales set in 1950s Baltimore. Diner, whose script earned writer-director Levinson his second Oscar nomination in 1983, portrays a group of pals coping with life after high school, and helped launch the careers of Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Ellen Barkin, Daniel Stern, Paul Reiser, and Steve Guttenberg. Liberty Heights, from 1999, focuses on two Jewish brothers (Adrien Brody and Ben Foster) who discover the neighborhoods around them are very different from their own.
