Description
|
|
|
|
This 1941 film noir musical stars Richard Whorf as blues band leader "Jigger" Lane. Traveling in boxcars from one roadhouse gig to another, the band catches a break when a gangster (Lloyd Nolan) hires them as the house band for his New Jersey joint. Things get interesting when Jigger decides to replace the band's regular singer (Priscilla Lane) with the gangster's girlfriend (Betty Field). The soundtrack is filled with Arlen/Mercer songs including the Oscar-nominated title song. Robert Rossen wrote the script and renowned director Elia Kazan has a small supporting role.
