A small group of collectors from across the United States, the American Art Forum was founded in 1987 by Charles Eldredge while he was director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This catalog from the Forum's anniversary exhibit showcases 72 artworks collected by the group, including fine landscapes like Sanford Robinson Gifford's The Marshes of the Hudson, light-filled Impressionist canvases, gritty Ashcan School paintings, powerful Abstract Expressionist works, and resonant contemporary paintings by Andrew Wyeth and David Hockney.
