Musical partners, off and on since 1989, harmonizing duo Chris Cunningham and John Hermanson add up to way more than the sum of two parts in this 2007 release, which came about after they won the Kerrville New Folk songwriting contest and appeared on Mountain Stage. Their spectacular harmonies ring out on songs with beautifully layered arrangements, like "Ballad of Joe Snowboard," "Room in My Heart," "Blazing Out of Sight," and "Sacramento." "Has both an intimate, in-the-moment feel and a pristine audio quality. Tasteful doses of piano, electric guitar and drums provide a backdrop, but the unquestionable star of the album is still John's and Chris' effortless harmonies. The Simon & Garfunkel comparisons still fit, but local fans might be reminded of the Jayhawks' 'Rainy Day Music' album in twangier up-tempo tracks such as 'Paradise Lost.' Or older fans might hear Bread in the down ballads 'Sacramento' and 'For a Song.' 'There's something that's dangerously '60s/'70s about an acoustic folk duo,' Hermanson admitted with a laugh.
