One of the most exciting live soul acts of the 1960s and soul music's most popular duo, tenor Sam Moore and baritone/tenor Dave Prater were veterans of the gospel groups the Melionaires and the Sensational Hummingbirds who met at Miami's King of Hearts club in in 1961. They teamed up as a duet and recorded these gritty sides for Roulette in the early 1960s, but it wasn't until they moved to Stax that they charted with the classics "Hold On! I’m Comin'" and "Soul Man." Sam and Dave's raw, dynamic sound pervades these 12 tracks, on which Jackie Wilson supposedly appears uncredited as a backup singer. They include the soulful "It's So Nice While It Lasted," "I Got a Thing Going On," "I Need Love," "No More Pain," "If She'll Still Have Me," and "Keep a' Walkin'." The duo were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.
