The bright harmonies and jazzy approach of the Merry Macs vocal quartet (three guys and a gal) pervaded their hit song "Mairzy Doats," as well as "The Hut Sut Song," "Sentimental Journey," "Breathless," "Cheatin' on the Sandman," and "Deep in the Heart of Texas." This 14-track collection also includes collaborations with Bing Crosby ("Dolores" and "You Made Me Love You"). "Their cool harmonies … are still beguiling a half-century later, and bear repeated listening—the Manhattan Transfer owed a certain amount to the quartet's work in the 1940s.
