This 1964 release harks back 15 years to a theme album composed and sung by Mel Tormé. His longtime arranger and conductor Marty Paich is on hand as tour guide for Davis, who zips through a number of Tormé's songs evoking the Golden State ("West Coast Is the Best Coast," "Got a Date on the Golden Gate," "They Go to San Diego," "Sunday Night in San Diego," "La Jolla," and "Poor Little Extra Girl") before a socko medley and finale. Davis then completes the album in a blaze of glory with six more Tormé tunes, incuding "A Stranger Called the Blues," "Born to Be Blue," "Welcome to the Club," "Willow Road," and "The Christmas Song" ("Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire").
