In 1986, The Benny Hill Show was still the flagship international production for Thames television, but he was the last of the old variety showmen still working. This final collection shows Hill at last catching up with the times, toning down the sexual play of his shows while at the same time becoming, if anything, more inventive, and more interactive with his audiences, to their delight. The impish Hill's humor was broad in every sense, incorporating sight gags and camera tricks, bawdy pub jokes, physical comedy, patter songs, double entendres, and, famously, scantily clad females. His BBC television show, begun in the 1950s, moved to commercial rival ITV in 1969 and was thereafter produced as a series of occasional specials. The U.S. version, first seen in 1979, was cobbled together from various episodes, and had many of the naughtier bits removed. These DVD sets collect all the episodes of The Benny Hill Show as they were originally aired in Britain.
