From racing sloops to jet planes, modern air and sea travel owes a great debt to the ingenuity of ancient China. This History Channel program explores how the ancient Chinese mastered the complicated principles of both fluid- and aerodynamics thousands of years before the West. Interviews with scholars and dramatic reenactments demonstrate how they invented many nautical mechanisms that we take for granted today. The program also shows how their understanding of air pressure, combined with advanced paper and silk-making skills, enabled the Chinese to participate in manned flight 2,000 years before the Wright Brothers.
