|
Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett deliver wickedly entertaining, Oscar-nominated performances in this corrosive 2006 drama of sexual manipulation. Lonely, cynical history teacher Barbara Covett (Dench) befriends an overwhelmed new art teacher Sheba Hart (Blanchett) at a rough London school. When Barbara discovers that Sheba is having an affair with a student, the calculating older woman uses the secret to gain what she wants. Philip Glass's menacing, Oscar-nominated score deftly underscores the mounting tension in Patrick Marber's Oscar-nominated script.
