Unfortunately, a hungry old witch wants to take the buttermilk, and when Johnny won't give it up, she decides to take him for her supper too, plopping him into her sack. But the lad is a clever one, and manages to outsmart the witch not once, but three times, before she finally becomes so angry she bursts. In Jennifer Mazzucco's stylized paintings, a cat and mouse echo the contest between Johnny and the witch.
