Description

This generous compilation includes well-known works such as the "Organ" symphony, the Introduction et rondo capriccioso for violin (written for and premiered by Pablo Sarasate and played here by Kyung-wha Chung), and the famous Danse macabre, which caused the composer's mother to faint at its first performance. The lesser-known pieces are equally phenomenal, including the highly melodic symphonic poems Phaéton and La jeunesse d'Hercule, both suffused with rich orchestral color.
