Description

Described at the time by Gramophone as "a dramatist of high accomplishment and a poet of the greatest promise," Russian-born pianist Yevgeny Kissin was a wunderkind of 17 when he partnered with elder statesman Karajan in this concerto. Both audio and video recordings of the occasion (a 1988 New Year's concert) were made by Deutsche Grammophon. The concerto has been approached in many ways, from Horowitz's madcap gusto to Van Cliburn's gentle grace, and in this account Kissin leaned more to the latter.
