Felicia Weathers appeared at the Met in 1965 as Lisa in The Queen of Spades. This recording from the next year opens with Elisabetta's two arias from Don Carlo and continues with Desdemona's "Willow Song" and "Ave Marie"; Manon's "Sola, perduta, abbandonata"; Liù's "Tu che di gel sei cinta" from Turandot; "O mio babbino caro" from Gianni Schicchi; and more. "A voice of lovely timbre—a velvet texture—and her command of what it is convenient to call lirico spinto production is wide ranging. For an example of this you could try … 'In quelle trine morbide', in which the sensuous allure and self-pitying recollections of Manon Lescaut in her prosperity are perfectly realised…. 'Un bel di' is very well managed, sung with the right sort of wistful and patient note in the voice until the climax, full and heartfelt.
