These vividly incisive accounts from the 1970s of two of Mozart's most often-recorded piano concertos have retained their distinctive allure. Gulda offers two cadenzas in the Rondo of the first concerto (by Hummel and Beethoven), while providing several of his own for the second.
"He must have been an agreeable soloist to accompany. His exchanges with the woodwind in the finale of the D minor are as effective as I've heard them, and I think one would infer from his consideration for orchestral detail and from his impeccable timing throughout that he is an experienced artist. I like his tempi: steady, well controlled first movements … flowing two-in-a-bar andantes; brisk and often mercurial finales … [with a] feeling for the music's natural pace."—Gramophone
