Until very recently the conductor of the Seattle Symphony, Gerard Schwarz was for many years an instrumental virtuoso par excellence as Principal Trumpet of both the New York Philharmonic and the American Brass Quintet (American Record Guide's Barry Kilpatrick described his playing as "a complete mastery that transcends the usual limits of the instrument"). Among his legacy of brilliant recordings is this collection of trumpet music by contemporary composers, whom he championed. Works include Stefan Wolpe's Solo Piece, Concerto for Trumpet and Nine Instruments by Henry Brant, Elliott Carter's Canon for Three in memory of Igor Stravinsky, Richard Moryl's Salvos, and more.
