The miniatures and cuttings from medieval and Renaissance manuscripts in this catalog, seen in 217 duotones and 33 color plates, represent the major schools of illumination that flourished in Europe from the 14th to the 16th centuries, including a miniature by Simon Marmion—the "prince d'enluminure"—painted for a Breviary for Charles the Bold and Margaret of York. Among the Italian illuminations here are Last Judgment in an Initial C by Florentine painter Lorenzo Monaco and Adoration of the Magi by Francesco Marmitta.
