In the mid-1930s, Scottish cigarette manufacturer Stephen Mitchell & Son joined the craze of the day by producing a set of collectible cigarette cards dubbed "The World of Tomorrow," in which imaginative illustrations and scenes from science fiction films were used to make predictions about the future. This compact, delightful album reproduces the full series of 50 cards, showing the front and back of each and pairing it with a modern photograph illustrating the idea depicted on the card. From giant telescopes to robots, from wind turbines to weapons of the next war, some of the ideas have proven startlingly close to the mark.
