In this independent film from 2006, Steven Shainberg and Erin Cressida Wilson—the director and writer behind Secretary—give us a psychological and romantic fantasy based on the works of photographer Diane Arbus. Nicole Kidman plays Arbus, who one day notices her masked neighbor Lionel (Robert Downey Jr.) on the street. Drawn to this odd man, who has a condition that produces excessive hair on his body, and determined to take his picture, she embarks on a career of finding unusual subjects to photograph, while becoming emotionally split between Lionel and her husband Allan Arbus (Ty Burrell). "A gleaming jewel of a movie about desire."—Elle
