Debuting writer-directors Anthony and Joe Russo transplanted the 1960 comedy caper classic Big Deal on Madonna Street to a colorful ethnic neighborhood in Cleveland in this quirky 2002 indie film. Producers George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh recruited an all-star cast that includes William H. Macy, Isaiah Washington, Sam Rockwell, Michael Jeter, Luis Guzmán, Patricia Clarkson, and Clooney in a cameo role. Told in flashback, the film traces the plight of a sad-sack group of bumbling thieves and their desperate attempts to pull off the perfect heist. A bonus segment provides definitions and etymologies of Collinwood's distinctive local dialect.
