During the summer of 2005, artist and photographer Sean Scully spent time on the remote Aran Islands, off the west coast of Ireland, photographing the ancient dry-stone walls that crisscross the stark landscape. To him they were more than functional barriers; they were ancient and anonymous sculptures that reflected the elemental nature of life on the windswept terrain. This album collects 64 duotone reproductions of Scully's sensitive black and white photographs of the stone walls, with his memoirs and commentary, as well as 9 color images of his abstract paintings inspired by them.
