Though the Cleveland Museum of Art was given an important set of Alfred Stieglitz photographs in the 1930s, it was not until the 1980s that the museum finally began to assemble a significant photography collection. Since then, however, it has aggressively built a collection of stellar quality, as seen in this catalog of more than 1100 photographs. Here are early images by William Henry Fox Talbot and Eadweard Muybridge; iconic 20th-century work by Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Lewis Hine, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and James VanDerZee; experimental images by Man Ray and László Moholy-Nagy; and modern art and portraiture by William Eggleston, Sally Mann, Abelardo Morrell, Lorna Simpson, and Minor White.
