More than a collection of simple kids' recipes, this whimsically illustrated book is a time capsule from another era. Taken from the pages of Children's Activities for Home and School, a teacher's periodical published from the 1930s through the 1950s, these recipes were submitted to the magazine by children ages 5 to 12. There are a good number of sweets and desserts here, as you might imagine, as well as Hot Chili, March Casserole, Meat Loaf, the Superman Sandwich, and Frankfurter Stew. But the real treat is the colorful drawings by Sonia Roetter, who created smiling pineapples, cinnamon shakers, and graham crackers for the recipes (except for the sour cream, which is, of course, frowning).
