From a group photo of U.S. servicemen in a prison camp, captured when the Japanese overran Mindanao in the spring of 1942, to an image of the Queen Mary steaming into New York in June 1945 with troops returning home, this book looks at G.I.s in Europe and the Pacific. Some of the photos were taken in the heat of battle, and describe the tactics being used or the action taken; others show relatively quiet moments, and discuss the Army's equipment and the men who used it. The books in this series present World War II history as a series of large black and white photographs. Each appears in a two-page spread along with a labeled key to the photo's contents and a caption describing the items called out in the key.
