Daedalus Item Code
A writer for Benny Goodman and trumpeter with Louis Armstrong's All-Stars in the late 1940s, Dick Cary stayed with traditional jazz when he became a leader himself. Along with the band he played with every week for a decade, he performs 14 highly accomplished compositions inspired by his love of Ellington and Beiderbecke.
"The arrangements are surprisingly modern … and quite original. It is as if bebop never existed and jazz, from a swing base, continued evolving steadily after 1940. Recommended."—All Music Guide
"A great orchestra…. Vividly captures some magic moments."—Floyd Levin, Classic Jazz
