The Escovedo family is loaded with musical talent. Patriarch Pete has been a major force in Latin music since the 1960s. Daughter Sheila E—who performs with him on this 2000 set of mambo, cha-cha, guajira, and samba—is a Grammy-nominated percussionist-singer, who toured with Prince and was late night TV's first female bandleader. Together they concoct a smooth yet hot blend of contemporary jazz and Latin music.
