Heartbroken and cynical Ouyang Feng (Leslie Cheung) spends his days alone in the desert, a middleman for expert swordsmen and those seeking revenge. As Ouyang narrates this tale—interweaving the stories of his unusual clients, old friends, and future foes—he begins to realize the mistakes of his own past, and how his fear of rejection may have led him to a life of exile. The original version of Wong Kar Wai's 1994 martial arts classic won a slew of Asian critics' and film festival awards. This re-edited version is seven minutes shorter but benefits greatly from the digital remastering and color tinting—especially Christopher Doyle's award-winning cinematography.
