Grounded in the blues, this traditional jazz revival LP featuring a number of estimable old timers was recorded at The Birdhouse on Chicago's South Side in the early 1960s. The band is led by the versatile Junie C. Cobb, who started out in Chicago during the 1920s, later played banjo with King Oliver, and recorded as a leader on clarinet, alto, and tenor sax. Here he is reunited with vocalist Annabelle Calhoun, whom he backed in the 1930s and 40s, for a super set that includes "Be Mine," "Just Because of You," "Swing Your Hurdy-Gurdy," "Once or Twice," and "Belligerent Blues."
