Description

|
His Italian-American heritage and joyful approach to musicmaking link Ray Gelato to the legacy of Las Vegas showman Louis Prima; instead of the gutsy saxophone of Prima stalwart Sam Butera, however, it's Gelato himself who does the honors in his band. The plethora of favorites in this "live" studio recording include "Mambo Italiano," "Hey, There," "Just One of Those Things," "When You're Smiling," "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You," "That's Amore," "Them There Eyes/I Can't Believe You're in Love With Me," "Birth of the Blues," "New York, New York," and more. "The bouncy vocalist-saxman … performs privately for Paul McCartney, Richard Branson and (presumably by appointment) the Windsors of Buckingham Palace … with snappy arrangements and merry doo-wop vocal riffing from the front line…. [His] relaxed mastery of any style is something readily enjoyed."—The Evening Standard
