Setsuo Ito's fascination with the natural beauty of the American Southwest, the philosophy of Native Americans, and his own Japanese culture is expressed in what he calls Earthscapture, a series of sculptural works that vividly evoke landscape and water forms. Sandstone, mortar, plastic resin, seashells, stones, and organic materials are combined to create miniature earthscapes that look as though they could be specific places, yet are purely of Ito's imagination. This catalog presents 38 individual pieces in 116 color photographs by Lou Manna that at times could be mistaken for genuine landscape images.
