This inspiring 2004 film about friendship and independence stars James McAvoy as rebellious quadriplegic Rory O'Shea and Steven Robertson as Michael Connelly, whose cerebral palsy has left him with limited physical dexterity and a severe speech impediment. Despite their opposite temperaments, their physical abilities complement each other so well (Rory is the only one that can understand Michael's unintelligible speech) that, with the help of live-in aid Siobhan (Romola Garai, in an award-winning performance), they leave the institution and set up their own household. Inevitably, both men fall for the beautiful Siobhan, threatening their friendship and independence.
