One of the true masterpieces among Mozart's 66 sacred works, the solemn Litaniae de venerabili altaris sacramento, K. 243 sounds resplendent here, thanks in part to the performance of soprano Margaret Marshall, a veteran performer of Mozart's works. The theme of the second movement would resurface 15 years later in the Tuba mirum section of his Requiem. Ms. Marshall is also in the spotlight for the concert arias "Misera, dove son!" K. 369, and "Bella mia fiamma, addio" K. 528; then Günter Wand and the NDR Sinfonieorchester change gears and close out with the overtures to Così fan tutte, The Magic Flute, and The Marriage of Figaro.
