Description
Launched in 1970 by Harvard graduates and Harvard Lampoon alumni Doug Kenney, Henry Beard, and Robert Hoffman, National Lampoon blazed to the forefront of American humor. Its parody-based comedy spared no one, and it launched the careers of numerous writers and artists, as well as performers associated with such spin-off projects as Lemmings and National Lampoon's Animal House. There at the beginning was Rick Meyerowitz, who created the iconic "Mona Gorilla" cover art. In this oversized treasury he collects memories from more than 30 Lampoon contributors, including Sam Gross, Gahan Wilson, Anne Beatts, P.J. O'Rourke, Bruce McCall, and Shary Flenniken, with examples of their best work for the magazine.

"Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead is a coffee-table bookóbig, colorful, and fun to flip through. But it also serves as an important reminder: Where would American humor be without the National Lampoon?"óThe New Yorker
