Description
Before they became futuristic soul trio LaBelle, Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash were members of the vaunted '60s girl group Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles. The group also included Cindy Birdsong, who went on to replace Florence Ballard in The Supremes. With tracks from Saturday Night at the Uptown, Over the Rainbow, and Dreamer (as well as four unreleased songs), these 39 selections make up a comprehensive compilation of their work for Atlantic from 1964–68. Included are the R&B hits "Over the Rainbow," "All or Nothing," "I'm Still Waiting" (produced by Curtis Mayfield), and "Take Me for a Little While," as well as "That's How Heartaches Are Made," "Groovy Kind of Love," "Patti's Prayer," "Unchained Melody," "Yesterday," "People," "Always Something There to Remind Me," "Dreamer," "He's My Man," "Dance to the Rhythm of Love," "How You Can Throw My Love Away," and more.

"Their first 'Top 40' hit was 'I sold My Heart to the Junkman' in 1962. They began performing before audiences, often at Harlem's legendary Apollo theatre and became one of the hottest touring acts of the sixties with hits like 'Danny Boy,' 'Down the Aisle' and 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.' The Apollo became such a regular venue for the group that they were affectionately called 'Sweethearts of the Apollo’."—Los Angeles Sentinel
