Composed of four classic film adaptations and a set of finely detailed reproductions of rare memorabilia from the lives of Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Henry James, and E.M. Forster, this collection breathes new life into some of literature's greatest works. Matthew Rhys stars in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Dickens's unfinished final novel, as the troubled choirmaster John Jasper. Featuring the usual tapestry of Dickensian characters, this is a disturbing story of obsession and addiction that races to an unexpected end; this production received a BAFTA nomination for costume design. Mansfield Park features Billie Piper as the sensitive, shy, intelligent, and virtuous Fanny Price in this retelling of Austen's story of love, deceit, and betrayal, in which Fanny must navigate a labyrinth of intrigue and infidelity as she searches for true love. When a young governess is hired by a charming bachelor to look after his children in a grand mansion in rural England, things take a supernatural turn in James's The Turn of the Screw with Jodhi May, Pam Ferris, and Colin Firth. And romance blossoms and sparks fly in a poignant adaptation of Forster's tale of love, expression, and breaking free, A Room With a View, starring Elaine Cassidy, Laurence Fox, and Rafe Spall. Here too are such items (reproduced from the originals at the British Library and the National Archives in London) as handwritten letters, rare portraits, and photographs; the cover and illustrations of Dickens's The Mystery of Edwin Drood published in 1870; opinions of Manfield Park from Austen's family and friends in 1813 and extracts of her juvenilia History of England with illustrations by her sister Cassandra; and James's British Certificate of Naturalization from 1915.
