Description
This collection of musical farewells includes requiems for Binchois (i.e., Gilles de Binche) by Johannes Ockeghem (Mort tu as navré), for Ockeghem by Josquin des Prez (Nymphes des bois), and for Josquin by Benedict Appenzeller (Musae Jovis). In addition, Chant 1450 sing several chanson motets, including one with a text by Margaret of Austria for her brother Philip the Fair (1506).

"Several selections are performed in instrumental arrangements, and five pieces from the Requiem Mass are added, for they furnish the cantus firmus for many of these pieces…. Their chant performances are semiological, with the offertory of the Mass for the Dead particularly well done. Their polyphony is interesting, for this repertoire is more often heard unaccompanied. Here the four male voices are joined by three instrumentalists and an organist. The effect is a soft, understated rendition, far from the overblown accompanied performances that we used to hear several decades ago."—American Record Guide
