Description
Developed in the second half of the 19th century and all but extinct by the 1930s, Tancook whalers were fast, elegant schooners adapted to the needs of the residents of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Robert Post's affectionate tribute recounts the history of the ships, and relies when possible on primary sources. The text details the painstaking 1978 reconstruction of a Tancook whaler, and is supplemented by dozens of archival and contemporary black and white photographs, as well as technical drawings and specifications for these unique vessels.
