Writer-director Stéphane Giusti's poignant, autobiographical 2001 tale depicts the 1930s migration of Italians to France through the experiences of a communist schoolteacher turned house painter, his wife, and their two children. Nella and Orfeo flee their small village in Tuscany to escape the fascists, hoping to sail to America. They alight in Marseilles, where they ultimately settle. In French with English subtitles.
