Description
Since its introduction to Africa in the late 19th century, photography has played an essential role in the continent's postcolonial era, both for recording numerous seismic moments in recent history and for reclaiming Africa's own diverse self-imagery from the identities imposed upon it. Postcolonial photography has blossomed in the past five decades, and this catalog from an exhibition at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels showcases some 200 black and white and color images from 34 African photographers, including Rui Assubuji, Nabil Boutros, Loulou Cherinet, James Depara, Samuel Fosso, David Goldblatt, Bob Gosani, Pierrot Men, Zwelethu Mtethwa, Eileen Perrier, Ricardo Rangel, Malick Sidibe, and Patrice-Felix Tchikaya.
