This is one of the better filmed versions of Bellini's 1831 masterpiece. Greek soprano Dimitra Theodossiou's roles include that of Elizabeth I and Cleopatra, and she is commanding as the wronged Druid princess as well as vocally strong and affecting in the famed aria "Casta diva." Nidia Palacios is an equally believable and affecting Adalgisa, and their famous duets together are emotionally as well as vocally riveting.
