Description
Fated to be an exile, a hero must roam the world to follow his destiny, in this extract from Virgil's 1st-century BC epic, The Aeneid. The city of Troy has fallen, only a few of its citizens remain, and brave Aeneas must save his family and escape before the invading Greeks murder them all. But Aeneas is pursued by vengeful Juno, the Queen of Heaven, who chases him across the seas and summons up every torment in her power to destroy him before he can found the state of Rome. With the 1958 revised translation by W.F. Jackson Knight, this edition tells the story from the fall of Troy to the suicide of Queen Dido of Carthage, abandoned by Aeneas and swearing her city's eternal enmity to Rome.
