Description
|
|
|
|
Prior to the Great War, a young Englishman, Stephen Wraysford (Eddie Redmayne), while on business, stays with the Azaire family in Northern France, where he falls in love with the married Isabelle. They begin an illicit and all-consuming affair, but the relationship ultimately falters. Years later, while fighting on the Western Front, Stephen meets a selfless tunneller (Joseph Mawle), who unexpectedly helps him endure the ravages of war and enables him to make peace with his feelings for Isabelle. This 2012 film, adapted from Sebastian Faulks' epic love story, received six BAFTA TV nominations, including one for Mawle, and won for Best Costume Design.
