Description
|
|
|
|
A romantic triangle between heroic aviator Pete Van Allen (George Brent), socialite Maggie Van Allen (Bette Davis), and self-indulgent, tempestuous concert pianist Sandra Kovac (Mary Astor) takes a tragic turn when Pete is lost on a mission in South America, leaving his wife and a pregnant Sandra behind. Down-to-earth Maggie pays the ambitious Sandra to let her adopt Pete Jr. (Billy Eugene Ferris; Timony Tennyson) and raise him as her own—a mutually agreeable arrangement until the long-lost flyer "returns from the dead." Astor's tour-de-force performance earned her an Oscar in 1942, and Max Steiner's fervent score makes a full box of tissues mandatory.
